Sunday Church School

Sunday Church School is offered from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM every Sunday from September through May. Registration for the program takes place on Rally Day, September 20^th 9:30 AM - noon.

There are classes available starting with preschoolers (age 3+) through senior high students (9-12th grade). Students in preschool through eighth grade use Augsburg Fortress's curriculum "Witness", a story based system designed to give children mastery of a hundred bible stories.

Sunday School Grade-by-Grade Learning Goals

As established by the Gloria Dei Church Council:

Pre-K: Free Prayer
Kindergarten: The Lord's Prayer
First Grade: Names of Jesus's Disciples
Second Grade: The Ten Commandments
Third Grade (Third Graders receive Bibles):
   The Pentateuch (First Five Books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy)
   The Four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)
Fourth Grade: Luther's Morning Prayer and Luther's Evening Prayer
Fifth Grade: The Apostles’ Creed
Sixth Grade: Seasons and Major Festivals of the Church Year
Seventh Grade & Eighth Grade: Basic Structure of the Liturgy of Holy Communion
